🎖️ Know Your Uniform: The Guide to Awards and Insignia
The Scout uniform isn’t just what we wear it’s a symbol of our achievements, our troop, and our shared commitment to the values of Scouting. Whether you’re new to the program or working your way through Eagle, understanding how and where to wear awards is important. That’s where the Guide to Awards and Insignia comes in.
📘 What Is It?
The BSA Guide to Awards and Insignia is the official reference for:
- Uniform placement for patches, badges, and awards
- Appropriate insignia by program level (Scouts BSA, Cub Scouts, Venturing, etc.)
- Recognition items for youth and adults
- Religious emblems, special awards, service stars, and more
It ensures Scouts and Scouters are uniformed properly and respectfully, in keeping with BSA’s traditions and standards.
🧵 Why It Matters
- Helps Scouts wear badges with pride and accuracy
- Makes it easier to prepare uniforms for Boards of Review, courts of honor, and public events
- Prevents confusion about what can be worn where (especially with adult leader awards or temporary patches)
Plus, it’s a great way to understand just how many opportunities there are in Scouting to be recognized for leadership, service, and growth.
